Kids In Wrong-Way Crash Weren't Restrained

CORSICANA (CBSDFW.COM) - None of the six children riding in a vehicle that was struck by a wrong-way driver on Interstate-45, south of Corsicana, on Monday were wearing seatbelts or restrained in child safety seats. The crash is now being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash in Freestone County killed both adult drivers and a 14-year-old boy. It happened at around 11:00 a.m. when the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. The truck slammed into a Nissan Pathfinder with a husband, wife and six kids inside.
Investigators said that one of the children was ejected during the crash.
The initial collision caused a chain reaction, with a two additional vehicles.
The wrong-way driver has been identified as James Edward Warren of Richland, located just to the north of where the fatal crash took place. Officials said that Warren was born in 1937, making him at least 77 years old.
Police are not identifying the family which was struck by the wrong-way driver. The mother and her five surviving kids were taken to Dallas area hospitals -- some by air ambulance. Their conditions have not been released.
