KELLER (CBS11 SPORTS) - For Lauren Pitzer and Cody McCasland, a chance to represent our country is something they share in common.

Lauren, a soon to be senior at Fossil Ridge High School, will take part in the Olympic swimming trials later this month in Omaha. She says she has to pinch herself and finds it still hard to imagine she's competing.

Cody, an incoming freshman at Keller High School, lost both of his legs when he was 15 months old, due to a rare spinal cord condition.

He will compete in the Paralympic swimming trials next week in Charlotte.

Cody says he hopes his drive inspires those who believe obstacles are too great to overcome.

Coach Jason Walter, of the Lakeside Aquatic Center, says the two swimmers exemplify what hard work can lead to and their never give up attitude is something others can learn from.
