KAUFMAN (CBSDFW.COM) - Kaufman Police have shot a person who led them on a chase while behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler.

According to police, around 11 am, a local business called 911 to report a theft and described the suspect as driving a red mack truck with a flat bed trailer.

A little later, police say they received another 911 call regarding a red mack truck bumping them into the intersection at FM 987.  Police located the truck and tried to stop the driver.  But the driver did not stop.  Spike strips were used as the truck approached Fair Road and Jefferson Street, but the driver swerved and almost hit the officer deploying the strips, according to police.

The officer fired at the truck and hit the suspect, who was taken to Baylor Hospital in Dallas.  No word on the suspect's condition.
