DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The road to the White House passes through North Texas on Wednesday, as Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine comes to town for fundraisers. The campaign trail stops in both Dallas and Fort Worth on the second leg of the Virginia senator's Texas visit.

Kaine was in Austin on Tuesday, dropping by the Travis County Democratic Party office. The vice presidential nominee is on a jobs tour, touting the 100-day plan of presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. "Do you want a 'you're hired' president or a 'you're fired' president? It's not that hard," Kaine said. "Hillary Clinton will be a 'you're hired' president."

"She has got this five-point economic plan," Kaine continued, "first 100 days with Congress, biggest jobs program since World War II. It encompasses investments, pay equity minimum wage, education so we can have debt-free college, and great pre-K curriculums."

This is the campaign's first significant action in Texas since the Democratic primary in March.

Political analyst John Weekley said that, even though Texas is a deeply red state, it is not unexpected to see Kaine bringing the Democratic campaign here. The polls are very close, and the Lone Star State is important. "I think the strategy would be to at least try and carve out as many moderates and people who are split," Weekley said, "and see how many of those they can get to vote Democrat. Whether they vote straight Democrat or not, they care mostly about the federal officers on the ticket."

Speaking to supporters in Austin on Tuesday, Kaine focused on the differences between Clinton and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. "The next president will be the president that will celebrate the centennial of women having the right to vote," Kaine said. "Is it too much to ask that it be a woman, rather than somebody who offends women every time he opens his mouth?"

Kaine was in Fort Worth on Wednesday morning and will be in Dallas during the evening for some private fundraising events. General admission tickets require a $2,700 donation to the Clinton campaign.

Meanwhile, Trump is also planning a return to Texas this month. He is scheduled to be in Austin on August 23.
