Jury Selection Underway For Suspect In 2014 Deadly SXSW Crash

AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM) - Jury selection is underway in the capital murder trial of the man accused of running down a Fort Worth couple and more than two dozen others in Austin last year during the South By Southwest festival.
Police say Owens was driving drunk and trying to get away from an officer when he drove through a barricade and into pedestrians gathered at 9th and Red River Streets. Owens was given a blood alcohol test after he was arrested and reportedly tested at .114. The legal limit in Texas in .08.
Nearly two-dozen people were injured and four killed, including Fort Worth resident Deandre Tatum. Tatum, a 2013 Trimble Tech High School graduate, had gone to the festival with his girlfriend, Curtisha Davis. Davis was also seriously injured in the crash, but survived.
Owens remains in the Travis County Jail with bonds totaling $5.5 million. His trial is scheduled to begin in one week.
