Jury Awards $4.5M To Ex-Student Molested By Texas Educator

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A South Texas school district has been ordered to pay $4.5 million to an ex-student who was molested by an educator.
Officials with the South San Antonio Independent School District plan to appeal Wednesday's jury verdict.
Authorities believe the abuse began in 2004 when the boy was 8 years old.
The allegations surfaced in 2008 and led to the firing of Michael Alcoser, who was principal at Carrillo Elementary School. Authorities say Alcoser met the victim while vice principal at Price Elementary School and concealed the abuse by saying he was tutoring the boy.
Alcoser in 2011 pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child and received 18 years in prison.
The victim sued in 2013, alleging violation of federal laws requiring schools to protect children from sexual violence.
