Jurors Watch Police Interrogation At Williams Murder Trial

FORT WORTH (CBS11NEWS) – On the night her husband died, police questioned Michele Williams for nearly five hours. That interrogation video took center stage on day two of her murder trial.

Jurors witnessed the intense interrogation, during which Williams insisted for hours that she had nothing to do with her husband's death. At first, Williams insisted an intruder killed her husband, Greg.

"I did not hurt my husband, and he did not hurt himself. There was a man at my house," Williams told police during the 4 ½ hour interview.

While she sobbed uncontrollably, Williams repeated the story several times, until Keller police told her it didn't add up.

"So you need to…you need to tell me. If he self-inflicted it you need to tell me," said Sgt. John McGrew. "I mean, this is it. I don't…you know, we're gettin' to wits' end. You've got to be honest with me. If he… if he did it and you covered it up, just tell me."

"He did," she responded.

At that point, Williams changed her story, telling police her husband committed suicide. She said she made up the intruder story and tried to make it look like a burglary.

"Then in order to make it make some sense, I had to have an injury, but I couldn't," she continued. "I just thunked myself and I thunked myself too hard."

Williams admitted hitting herself with a wrench to give her intruder story some legitimacy. Williams also explained that she made up the story to protect her 4-year-old daughter, who was sleeping in the living room at the time of her dad's death.

"I couldn't let her know that her daddy killed himself," Williams said through tears.

Prosecutors are trying to prove Williams murdered her husband to collect on a $650,000 life insurance policy.
