Juan Gonzalez, Jeff Russell Elected To Rangers Hall Of Fame

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- Juan Gonzalez and Jeff Russell have been elected as the 18th and 19th members of the Texas Rangers Baseball Hall of Fame, the team announced on Tuesday.

The two will be inducted in pre-game ceremonies on Saturday, July 11 prior to the team's home game against the San Diego Padres. The ceremony will begin at 7:15 p.m., with the game scheduled to start at 8:05.

A panel of all living Texas Rangers Hall of Fame inductees, veteran members of the media, and Rangers club officials voted.

Gonzalez, a two-time American League Most Valuable Player, was an outfielder-DH for Texas from 1989-99 and again from 2002-03. He is the club's all-time leader in home runs (372), RBI (1180), and extra base hits (713).

He is among the club's all-time leaders in total bases (2nd, 3073), slugging (2nd, .565), runs (3rd, 878), hits (4th, 1595), doubles (4th, 320), at bats (4th, 5435), and games (5th, 1400).

Gonzalez established team records in earning his second MVP award in 1998, when he collected 157 RBI and 97 extra base hits. He was the Rangers Player of the Year five times (1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998), tying Michael Young for the most ever.

Russell is the Rangers' all-time leader in relief appearances (406) and games finished (251). He also ranks second in appearances (445) and saves (134). He pitched for Texas from 1985-92 and again in 1995-96.

Russell was a starter at he beginning of his career, earning an A.L. All-Star selection in 1988. He became the team's closer in 1989 and led the A.L. with 38 saves.
