Johnny Manziel Enters Treatment Facility
CLEVELAND (CBSDFW.COM) -- Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel entered a treatment facility on Wednesday, a spokesman for the quarterback confirms.
In a statement from publicist Denise Michaels, Manziel seemingly acknowledges that he needs help to become a better teammate and friend.
"Brad Beckworth, a friend and advisor to Manziel and his family, has confirmed that Johnny entered treatment on Wednesday. Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate and he thought the off-season was the right time to take this step. On behalf of Johnny and his family, we're asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland."
Cleveland drafted the former Texas A&M quarterback with the 22nd overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. The quarterback's partying ways were well chronicled this season, culminating in Manziel being suspended for the final game after missing a treatment session.
The 22-year-old appeared in five games for the Browns this season, completing 51 percent of passes with two interceptions.
Browns General Manager Ray Farmer issued the following statement of support on Monday morning.
"We respect Johnny's initiative in this decision and will fully support him throughout this process. Our players' health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns. We continually strive to create a supportive environment and provide the appropriate resources, with our foremost focus being on the individual and not just the football player."
