Jerry Jones Reflects On His 25 Years As Cowboys Owner
DALLAS, Texas (105.3 THE FAN) - Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones joins the Ben and Skin show on the 25th anniversary of his purchase of the team.
Jones spoke at length about the enormous risk he took when buying the team in 1989 and his favorite memories in the past quarter century, including winning three super bowls, turning the Cowboys into a financially stable franchise and the countless people he's encountered along the way.
Jerry also explained how the NFL salary cap, that he helped create, affected the dominant Cowboys teams of the 90's and the lessons he learned from Tex Shramm about using other people's input to make decisions.
As for his ownership over the past decade, Jerry divulged his greatest disappointment that they haven't won a super bowl with Tony Romo at the helm and regrets not cashing in on the talent heavy teams during Bill Parcells tenure.
Regarding the current team, Jones said he's a big fan of Johnny Manziel and thinks he's ready for the NFL, but Romo is their "ticket" and he couldn't trade three drafts to get high enough to snag Johnny Football.
