iTeam Investigates: Video Surveillance Captures SUV Crashing Into Home

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW) - A SUV slams into the front of a Fort Worth home on the far northwest side, then drives away. The entire accident was captured on surveillance video.

But no matter which way you look at it, Mary Whitbeck and her husband Rick are lucky. They weren't home when the accident happened, but cleaning up after a reckless driver is still frustrating.

"Well, 2:30 in the morning," Mary Whitbeck started. "One, either they were drunk or two, they fell asleep. You know, one or the other."

The accident happened early Monday morning. The driver slams into their front porch, pauses for a few seconds, and then drives away.

"The debris was thrown through the house. We had sheet rock and the stones that surrounding these columns were through the house and all over the floors and dining room table," Rick Whitbeck explained.

This home has been in Rick's family since the 60's. When his parents passed away the couple eventually moved in and made it their own by remodeling it with their own hands. It was a labor of love that's now partially reduced to rubble.

"I have to say when I saw the destruction, I thought, we spent so many hours building that front porch and doing that stone work and mortaring it and to see it destroyed needlessly was kind of unsettling," Rick added.

The Whitbecks are now facing thousands of dollars in repairs if the driver of this SUV isn't found. It's definitely not the way they'd hoped to start off the New Year.

If you know who might have caused this accident or have seen the vehicle involved, you are encouraged to call the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department.
