Irving Traffic Switches & Closures Begin For SH 183 Project

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) — The first major lane closures and traffic-pattern switches for a $847 million construction project begin Sunday night.
Officials expect the Midtown Express project, also known as the State Highway 183 Managed Lanes Project, to improve traffic flow by expanding parts of certain highways, rehabbing deteriorating roadways and adding toll lanes throughout Irving in the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport area. The first closures are part of the "interim" phase, which costs $847 million and is scheduled to be completed by 2018, according to the project's website.
TxDOT listed SH 183 as one of Texas' 100 most congested roadways, according to SouthGate Constructors, which will be working on the interim phase of the project.
Take note of the following closures and switches that will be in effect of 8 p.m. Sunday night (weather permitting) for what SouthGate calls an "extended period of time":
- Traffic switch: southbound Loop 12 off-ramp to westbound SH 183
- Traffic will exit further north and be detoured to the frontage road.

- Ramp will be closed.

- Ramp closure: westbound SH 183 to University of Dallas exit
- Off-ramp will be closed. Traffic will use the Carl Road exit.
