Irving police arrest pediatric medical assistant, ask potential victims to reach out

IRVING – Police are urging parents to speak with their children after a North Texas medical assistant was arrested and charged with indecency with a child.

Angel Nunez, 25, had inappropriate sexual contact with multiple young patients on several occasions at Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care, according to the Irving Police Department.

Detectives say they have identified three alleged victims, who range in age from nine to 15 years old. Detectives say all three went to the Little Spurs location in Irving. Two were there for sports physicals.

"And during the course of that sports physical exam, the patient was separated from their parents, under the assumption that this was all part of the exam, and then the defendant had inappropriate sexual contact with the patient," said Detective Padrutt, with Irving PD's Crimes Against Children Unit.

At the time, Nunez was employed as a medical assistant, and police say he wasn't authorized to perform exams.

"Part of his duties were to take vitals and stuff, but he was not a physician himself," Det. Padrutt said.

Nunez worked at multiple Little Spurs locations between August 2023 and August 2024, including Irving, Grand Prairie, Arlington and Fort Worth.

"We have notified the departments at those other locations to let them know that this investigation is going on and that they may be contacted about offenses that happened in their city," Padrutt said.

According to Irving police, Nunez worked at other medical facilities before Little Spurs, and they believe there are more victims out there.

"Most of the victims are unaware that anything out of the ordinary happened during the exam," the detective said. "So if parents could just have those tough conversations with them, then go back and talk to them, say hey, you know, when you were at this doctor's office, what all happened?"

If anyone knows of a victim or is a victim, contact Investigator Padrutt at (972) 721-6565 or apadrutt@cityofirving.org. They can also contact the Irving Police Department at (972) 273-1010.

Nunez was arrested on Sept. 5 and was charged with indecency with a child. He bonded out of the Dallas County Jail on Sept. 7.

Police said Little Spurs Pediatrics has been fully cooperative during the investigation.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Little Spurs told CBS News Texas: "Little Spurs has been caring for children in the communities we serve for more than 15 years, and we are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all patients and their families. We recently learned that an employee conducted a medical procedure beyond their scope of practice and outside of our established guidelines. As soon as we were made aware, we promptly reported the incident to Child Protective Services, launched an internal investigation, and terminated the employment of the employee in question. Law enforcement is continuing to investigate the former employee, and we are fully cooperating with their investigation. At Little Spurs, we adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct, and we are dedicated to ensuring that all staff conduct aligns with our core values and policies."
