FORT WORTH (CBS11) – Monday was the calm before the storm at Julio Rothschild's Farmers Insurance office in east Fort Worth.

The insurance agent says the kind of weather we are bracing for the next few days in North Texas usually leads to major damage of homes and plenty of insurance claims.

He said homeowners should be thinking of a few things before the storms move in.

"If they can figure out a way to protect the home before... that would be great," says Rothschild.

He says something as simple as laying a tarp over vulnerable areas can save a homeowner a lot of money and headaches after the storms hit.

The severe weather we are expecting could bring with it heavy hail, which is one of the top claims made every time a storm passes according to Rothschild.

Aside from being prepared, customers will need to have patience when filing their claims, Rothschild adds.  He says once their phones get backed up by customers filing claims, the process to fulfill those claims slows down.

Simply put, Rothschild says practicing some preparedness and patience could help many weather the storm and the potential damage.
