NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) -  With the gymnastic Olympic trials taking place next week, Plano-native Alyssa Baumann has withdrawn from the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

This afternoon Baumann took to Twitter explaining that she hurt her elbow during training on Wednesday.  She apparently injured her left elbow while training on the uneven bars and tore several ligaments and muscles. The 18-year-old said the injury is serious enough that it will require her to have surgery very soon.

In the post Baumann said, "This is obviously not how I wanted things to end, and I'm still in shock and completely devastated. I can't thank everyone enough for they're support and for always believing me."

Just this week Baumann competed on the balance beam during the 2016 P&G Gymnastics Championships in St. Louis, Missouri.

The teenager recently graduated from Spring Creek Academy in Dallas and will attend the University of Florida in the fall.
