Off-Campus Fight Leads To School Shooting Threat In The Colony

THE COLONY (CBSDFW.COM) - An argument between two students away from school property on Friday escalated into a shooting threat Monday at The Colony High School. Officials with the Lewisville Independent School District got word about the threat on Sunday night.
Parents, teachers and authorities were on high alert at the campus on Monday morning. Extra police officers parked their cars in the school's driveway, and students said that it was not a normal sight.
Police explained that they had found no credible threat, which is why classes continued as normal. However, the Friday fight led to talk on social media that one of the students made plans to show up at the school with a gun. Detectives reportedly went to the homes of the students involved in the argument. During interviews with the families, the teens denied ever making such threats.
The student who allegedly made the threat is already suspended for an unrelated matter. Investigators do not think that he had access to a weapon. Authorities do not have enough evidence to criminally charge anyone in this case.
A letter was sent to parents, stating that the suspects are being investigated. But it only took those online rumors of a shooting for some parents to keep their kids home from school on Monday. "I honestly didn't want to be here, to not take a chance, but my mom was like, 'They're going to have a lot of cops there. They got it under control,'" said student Naomi Ramirez.
It is not known how long the heightened police presence will remain at the campus. Representatives from the Lewisville ISD said that they appreciate the quick action taken by police when reports of the threat first surfaced.
"Everything on social media's been third-party allegations and comments made that have snowballed," said Ofc. Kyle Koiner with The Colony Police Department. "Of course, we did bring more officers here to have more police presence to put people's minds at ease."
