Immigration Debate Takes Center Stage At Dallas Theater Center

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A college student brought to the US illegally when he was an infant and who is caught in the middle of a hotly contested Presidential race is the story of "Deferred Action," which is running right now at Dallas Theater Center's Wyly Theatre.
The title "Deferred Action," is a reference to President Barrack Obama's Executive Order establishing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
The original production is a collaboration between DTC and Cara Mia Theater and the theater companies have partnered with members of the North Texas Dream Team, who are available in the lobby on show nights to answer audience questions.
Cara Mia Board Member Jesse Tafalla says the timing on the production could not be better, with the US Supreme Court hearing arguments just last week on the expansion of DACA and President Obama's Executive Order establishing Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA).
"Our Artistic Director was worried that immigration reform may be resolved before the play came out," says Tafalla. "And I was telling him 'no, you ask anybody, it's going to take a while'."
"Deferred Action" runs through May 14th at Dallas Theater Center's Wyly Theatre. On May 9th, there will be a special talk back session at the Latino Cultural Center.
