DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA plans its 2nd Dallas-area store.
The new store will be located along the eastern side of State Highway 161 and Mayfield Road just north of Interstate-20.
"With a contractor onboard, plans can proceed towards opening the future IKEA Grand Prairie," said Lars Petersson, IKEA U.S. president. "This store will provide a more convenient IKEA shopping experience for current and potential customers throughout central and western parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex who maybe live too far from IKEA Frisco."
IKEA Grand Prairie store plans reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide, and will feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children's play area, and a 450-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries and salmon plates, as well as American dishes. In addition, there will be a total of 1,100 parking spaces will be built on the 30-acre site.
More than 500 jobs that are expected to be created during the construction phase and another 300 workers are expected to be hired when the store opens in the fall of 2017.
