HUTCHINS (CBSDFW.COM) - Law enforcement officials in Hutchins have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman and stabbing her and her husband. The incident happened at about 3:45 a.m. early Tuesday at a home located in the 500 block of Breneman Street.

The suspect turned out to be the woman's ex-boyfriend.

Investigators immediately noticed that there were no signs of forced entry. However, once inside, police said that it was clear that there was a struggle throughout the home. The woman told officers that she woke up to find her husband being stabbed.

Both of the victims are now in different hospitals, but they are expected to be okay after suffering knife lacerations to their legs and arms. Authorities are still gathering information about this case, both at the couple's home and at the hospitals.

The suspect was identified by police as 46-year-old Gerald Perkins of Dallas. He was not at the home when detectives arrived, but an officer spotted him running around the neighborhood while responding to the scene. Perkins was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and sexual assault. He could also face burglary charges.

A motive for the attack has not yet been determined.

Neighbors stated that Perkins mowed lawns at some area homes, but nobody knew him very well. Residents added that it was rare to have any crime in Hutchins, and the attack came as a total shock. "It's just scary, a couple of houses down," neighbor Vincent White said. "It's just too close to home. It's a nice community. Just praying that they get well and everything go back to normal."
