THE COLONY (CBSDFW.COM) - A husband and wife died Tuesday night when the motorcycle they were on was hit by a possible drunk driver who ran a red light, police said. The crash happened close to 8:00 p.m. on the northbound service road of State Highway 121 at Plano Parkway, explained Sgt. Jay Goodson with The Colony Police Department.
The couple from The Colony, later identified as 42-year-old Stephanie Byington and 42-year-old Jeremy Byington, was riding on Plano Parkway when they were struck by an SUV which was traveling northbound along the service road. Both victims died at the scene.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family with expenses.
Stephanie was a former city employee who had worked in the Animal Control Services division. "What's even more sad is their 21-year-old son was on a motorcycle behind and witnessed the accident," Goodson said.
Meanwhile, a man and woman in the suspect vehicle were taken to Presbyterian Hospital of Plano. They are both expected to be okay. During the investigation on Wednesday morning, police determined that the male driver may have been drunk at the time of the crash. "It looks like alcohol was a factor," added Goodson.
Authorities said that they will not release the name of the driver until evidence is collected and analyzed, and criminal charges are filed.
