AZLE (CBS11) - Police in Azle made a quick arrest after an early morning murder on Friday. The victim, a mother who police say was beaten to death by her husband.
Investigators were still combing the Azle home for clues Friday afternoon. A 911 call just after 4:30 a.m. Friday notified police that something was wrong. When they arrived, they found the body of 43-year-old Doris Andrews.
"It's really disturbing," says neighbor Sandra Carter. "It's really upsetting to find out something like this could happen in our neighborhood."
Investigators say Andrews had suffered blunt force trauma to the head and body. Still at the scene was her husband, 45-year-old Mark Andrews. Police arrested him for her murder. They say the couple has at least one child, who was in the house at the time.
"This investigation will continue, as all types of investigations do," says Azle Police Chief Rick Pippins. "A lot of information needs to be tracked down. A lot of work still needs to be done."
Police are not saying anything else about what happened. Neighbors in this quiet community say they are hoping for answers.
"When something like this happens, whether it's next door to you or not in a town this small, there's a lot of buzz," says neighbor Robert Owens.
"Very low-key, very nice neighborhood and always peaceful," says Carter. "So it's very upsetting, and it's very sad."
Andrews is being charged with first-degree murder. This is only the second murder in the city of Azle in the last four years.
