COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Officials say human remains found in Collin County could belong to a man who has been missing for nearly a year. Sidney Sorenson was 60-years-old when went out for a walk and never came back.

The remains were found behind the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Eldorado Parkway in Frisco. The location is close to where Sorenson was last seen in March of 2015.

Police were at the scene early this morning and then returned again before lunchtime. They placed several markers on the ground, as if those were the area where they'd be searching for evidence.

If the medical examiner determines the human remains are indeed those of Sorenson, it may bring much needed closure for his loved ones. But it could also be frustrating, since police, family and friends, spent so much time searching in the area.

Today Sorenson's wife says she is waiting to learn more from police.

In March, Sorenson's wife talked with CBS 11 News, as she continued to look for her husband. She remembered that just before he went for the walk he was frustrated over a fraudulent credit card charge. He left without his wallet and cell phone.

Family members said security camera video from a nearby school showed Sorenson walking toward the Warren Sports Complex, just down the street from the church. Police dogs, according to family members, tracked his scent to the prayer circle behind St. Francis, but they found no trace of Sorenson.

A work crew found the skeletal remains behind the church on Tuesday.

While no positive identification of the remains have been made, CBS 11 sources say clothing found with the remains match what Sorenson was wearing before he disappeared.

It could be several days before the remains are positively identified.

The Frisco Police Department is investigating the case and asks that anyone with information please call 972-292-6010. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through tip411 by texting the word FRISCOPD and the tip to 847411 (tip411).
