Texas Jailer Killed During Altercation With Inmate

HOUSTON (AP) - A Harris County Sheriff's Office jailer has died following an altercation with a combative inmate.

Sheriff Ron Hickman says Officer Tronoski Jones died early Thursday.

Hickman says the incident happened as the inmate was being moved from a recreation area back to his cell. The sheriff says the inmate became argumentative and combative, then 'contact' was made with Jones.

Hickman says the detention officer fell to the floor. The sheriff says a doctor immediately tended to Jones, who had no outward signs of an injury.

No cause of death was immediately released. Authorities ordered an autopsy on Jones, who'd been with the sheriff's office since 2011.

The name of the inmate involved in the struggle was not immediately released.
