Houston Cougar Basketball Player Praised On Social Media For Picking Up Trash Teammates Dumped After Disappointing Loss
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama (CBSDFW.COM) - A player on the Houston Cougars men's basketball team is being singled out in a good way for what he did after his team suffered a controversial road loss on Saturday, Dec. 11 at Alabama.
The Cougars fell 83-82 after referees did not call "goaltending" when a putback attempt by a Houston player was swatted away by an Alabama player.
Had goaltending been called, UH would have won its ninth game of the season.
As angry Houston players and staff left the court, a Cougars assistant was seen breaking a chair and kicking over another before walking off.
A player could then be seen swatting a garbage can onto the floor as he headed to the locker room.
Austin Rader tweeted video of the incident, to which Alabama alum Adam Weil replied while sharing the video, "Stay classy, Houston."
Seconds later, sophomore Jamal Shead began picking up the garbage.
Rader shared that scene as well.
"Shoutout Jamal Shead for picking up the trash," Rader's Twitter post read along with his video.
More than 4.1 million people had watched the video as of Monday afternoon.
People left all sorts of positive comments about Shead on the social media post.
One reply said, "This is what a leader looks like!! Set good examples for others!!"
"Hat tip to you Jamal. Great game and thank you for showing more class than some of your teammates and coaches," said another person on Twitter.
