FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Emergency crews responded to a house fire early Tuesday morning. The flames were first reported at around 4:00 a.m. in the 400 block of Fairview Street in east Fort Worth.
According to officials at the scene, the fire first started after the homeowner placed a space heater inside of an outdoor doghouse. That space heater somehow caused a fire in the doghouse, and that fire spread to the home.
Nobody was injured during this incident -- including the dog.
However, emergency workers had a difficult time battling this blaze because of the icy conditions which remained from Monday's winter storm. The residential streets around this home were still iced over. That made it hard for fire workers to reach the house.
Once they arrived at the scene, crews put down kitty litter to make walking around the home easier.
Firefighters understand that the homeowner was trying to protect a pet from the cold weather, but they see this type of incident far too often. The best advice, authorities added, is to just bring pets inside for the night.
