FORT WORTH (AP) - PGA Tour golfer Billy Horschel said he didn't know his wife planned to go public about her alcoholism until she sent her statement to him before posting it on social media.

Horschel said Tuesday that his wife Brittany told him that she was ready to share the couple's story after she marked a year of sobriety this month. She was in a treatment center from the end of last May through July.

Her poignant post Monday came a day after Billy Horschel won at the Byron Nelson. After his first victory since 2014, which came after four consecutive missed cuts, Horschel vaguely made reference to issues away from golf when talking about his emotions of winning.

Horschel said his wife wants to start helping others also dealing with addiction.
