Honduran Nationals Rode 8 Hours Atop Truck

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Dallas on Tuesday night detained a pair of Honduran nationals who had been riding on the roof of a truck for eight hours. The suspects were discovered shortly before 8:00 p.m. as the truck was passing through the downtown area.

The driver of the truck was traveling northbound along Interstate-35E when he heard somebody banging on the roof of his vehicle. He called 911 and reported the incident to police while continuing to drive onto Central Expressway.

Believe it or not, the truck driver had experienced a similar situation before, so he knew how to handle the matter.

Police caught up with the truck just past Walnut Hill Lane. When the driver pulled over, authorities were able to catch the two stowaways.

The suspects admitted that they had climbed onto the truck's roof in Edinburg, located near the Mexican border, and had been hanging onto the roof for the past eight hours. However, as night began to fall and temperatures dropped, the suspects got cold and started banging on the roof, in hopes that the driver would stop and they could safely get down.

Police said that the stowaways were lucky to have survived the ride.

The suspects were transported to the Dallas County Jail and interviewed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement representatives. They were then eventually released.
