Homeowner Brandishes Sword, Fights Off Attacker

AMARILLO (AP) — Amarillo police have charged a wounded man with assault after he allegedly used a baseball bat to try to attack a homeowner who fought back with a sword.

Potter County jail records show Chad Wayne Goode was being held Friday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bond was not yet set for Goode after Thursday night's fight outside a house.

Sgt. Brent Barbee says the two men know each other and have some ongoing personal dispute. Barbee declined to elaborate, but says a woman who accompanied Goode to the home previously stayed at the residence. She's not related to either man.

Police say the homeowner used a sword with a 20-inch blade to cut Goode, who was treated and arrested. No attorney was listed for him.
