DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A homeless man who fell asleep in a dumpster on Lake June Road woke up in the hospital today.

The dumpster was emptied by city workers into the back of a trash truck as scheduled.

The driver of the truck saw the man through a camera mounted on the truck, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans, but not before the compactor was activated.

The man survived with some injuries.

Firefighters dug through waist-deep trash to rescue him.
