Hit-And-Run Driver Kills Blind Man In Arlington

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Police are asking the public for help finding the person responsible for a hit and run that killed a blind man trying to cross the street.
Mark Anthony Lewis, 58, was using a walking cane to cross East Park Row Drive in Arlington when a driver hit him and kept going.
Investigators released surveillance video that shows a light-colored sedan that may have struck and killed Mark Anthony Lewis. Friends say he was virtually blind and struggled living on the streets. That's why they're outraged someone would leave him to die.
"That's just uncalled for. This was a good guy. He didn't do nothing to nobody, and he couldn't see. He walked with a cane," Lewis' friend Jules Conner said.
Lewis frequented the nearby Jack In The Box where Angel Lanuza had just served him before the crash Saturday night.
"Someone came in the restaurant, and they were like, 'call 911 right away cause someone got hit by a car,' and I went to go check, and it was the guy that I gave his order to," Jack In The Box employee Lanuza said.
Witnesses described the car that hit Lewis as a small, light-colored sedan with a broken front windshield.
"Typically the way we solve these types of cases is when someone notices a vehicle that has significant maybe front end or maybe even windshield damage," Arlington Police Lt. Christopher Cook said.
Now loved ones hope someone will recognize the car in the surveillance video and help police get justice for their friend.
"It's night time. You should be in the position of being aware what your surroundings are when you're driving," Conner said.
Police are asking the public to be mindful of anyone suddenly parking their car in a garage when they wouldn't normally. They're also asking body shops to be on the lookout for cars with front-end and windshield damage.
