COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) -  A project to widen SH 121 from SH 5 to west of FM 455 in the Melissa-Anna area has broken ground.

Lone Star Civil Construction, Inc. is the contractor on the $43.8 million project.

The 5.9 mile long project will widen SH 121 from a two lanes to four lanes.

The construction is 100% state funded. Construction includes pavement, drainage structures, signs, signals and pavement markings.

It's expected to take approximately two and a half years to build the project and the estimated completion is spring of 2018.

The contract specifies a six-day workweek schedule so there will be some weekend work.

Daytime lane closures will happen between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. as needed and night time lane closures may occur under special provision between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning.
