KAUFMAN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Highway 80 near Forney was shut down in both directions Thursday night hours after a tractor trailer overturned after authorities say the driver had a medical emergency.
Kaufman County Emergency Management says the big rig that crashed just east of the County Road 212/217 overpass before 5:00 p.m. was carrying hazardous materials.
Cleanup was delayed so the county could get a hazardous materials crew from Fort Worth to respond.
Several businesses in the area were evacuated as a precaution.
The truck was carrying approximately 2,200 gallons of ADOX 3125, a chloric solution in eight separate containers according to the manifest.
Three of those containers leaked fluid.
It's expected to take at least several hours before the highway is back open.
Meantime, traffic is being diverted onto service roads.
No word on the driver's condition. He was taken to a Dallas hospital.
