Hebron High School Teacher Jared Stites In Jail For Allegedly Sexually Assaulting Student
CARROLLTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - A high school computer science teacher is in jail tonight, accused of having an improper relationship with one of his students.
The teacher wasn't here at school last week.
He didn't return after Thanksgiving break.
And when was gone, a girl, who is now 17, decided to go to administrators to tell them what had been going on, she says, since the beginning of the school year.
Now, Jared Stites, 43, is in jail in Carrollton.
He's charged with not only an improper relationship between educator and student, but also sexual assault of a child because police say this started when the girl was still 16.
Stites taught computer science, and according to a school newspaper story and community reports over the years, was very active in working with students outside of class.
The school district thanked him for his work in an all-girls computer programming competition called Digital Divas.
But according to police, while one of his students was still 16, this improper relationship started up in August and continued until recently.
As of now, she is the only alleged victim police are aware of.
"We don't know though. We don't have indication of anyone specific. We certainly want to hear from anyone who has anything to report when it comes to the current case or anybody else who's had improper contact with him," said Jolene DeVito, a Carrollton Police spokesperson.
A school district spokesperson said that since this is in the hands of police now, the district had nothing to add and is just focused on supporting students and staff.
