MANSFIELD (CBSDFW.COM) - A vote by the Mansfield City Council Monday cleared the way for a new shopping center expected to bring grocery store giant HEB to town.

The planned development at the southeast corner of East Broad Street at U.S. 287, is expected to include a 80,000-106,000 square-foot HEB.

San Antonio-based HEB has reportedly purchased several Tarrant County properties for expansion into the DFW market.

Developers have not released a timeline for the project but said the center is expected to have additional retail and restaurants.

"Mansfield is seen by many retailers as one of the most desirable markets in the nation," said City Manager Clayton Chandler. "Our city's excellent quality of life, its location within the DFW Metroplex and the high per capita income our residents enjoy is seen as a huge plus for developers looking to bring high quality retailers to the area."

"This project represents another clear indication of how Mansfield is living up to its "best places to live" designation," said Mayor David Cook. "The caliber of commercial and residential projects coming to our city is among the best."
