HASLET (CBSDFW.COM) - Since Halloween, Peggy Fennell's finger feels lighter; her heart heavy.

She shared the warmth of an outdoor heater with longtime friend Janice Johnson handing out candy that night. It's one of her favorite holidays after all.

"We were giving out candy, it was quite cold, we were enjoying the night," said Fennell.

Trick-or-treaters from Johnson's The Highlands at Willow Springs subdivision and neighboring Sendera Ranch came by. At some point during the costume-clad fun filled with children's laughter, Fennell's ring slipped off her finger.

"It fit well, I didn't know how cold it was and it just slipped off," said Fennell, who's convinced it fell into a child's candy bag. "I think about it at night," she said tearfully.

The ring is an heirloom from her grandmother named Jessie, with whom she shared a very close relationship.

"She passed away when I was in college. I always called her when I needed someone to talk to," Fennell explained.

The missing ring holds a garnet stone surrounded by silver filigree.

Fennell said she handed out candy to anywhere from 50 to 75 kids that night. She vaguely remembers putting candy into a pillow case that a child was using as a candy bag. Fennell thinks that is where her heirloom may have ended up.

Fennell said the ring's monetary value is of little importance to her. She hopes someone will reunite her with it  so she can carry a little piece of her grandmother with her.

Anyone with information about the ring is urged to call our CBS tip line at 817.586.7411.
