Halloween Party Turns Bloody; Teacher Accused Of Killing Neighbors

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - An arrest warrant for a Cedar Hill science teacher accused of killing two neighbors after a Halloween gathering details the moments leading up to and after the murders.
Cary Joseph Heath, 35, was arrested in connection to the shooting deaths of Daniel Derek Haros and Phillip Michael Evans. They died early Sunday morning on Buffalo Springs Drive in southern Fort Worth. Heath lived a few doors down from them.
"We understand the victims were shot and had blunt force trauma to the face and head," said Fort Worth police PIO Sargent Mark Povero.
The affidavit released Tuesday morning said both victims had a short, amicable chat with Heath and his wife in the party host's front yard.
According to the affidavit, after Haros and Evans walked home, Heath went to his home as the other guests returned to the party.
A few minutes later, neighbors heard multiple gunshots, the affidavit reads.
"Mr. Heath went to the victim's home, they came outside and he shot them to death," said Sgt. Povero.
A few minutes after gun shots rang out, Heath ran into his neighbor's home, handed his one-year-old child to his neighbor and stated 'this is the last time I will see the baby. I killed two people,' the affidavit reads.
Heath also told his wife that he killed Haros and Evans and that she needed to clean some blood out of the gun safe.
Heath, an eighth-grade science teacher taught his classes at Permenter Middle School the next day. One of his students told CBS 11 that he acted "completely normal" as though it was just another regular school day.
He was arrested in a parking lot on campus after school was dismissed Monday.
While parents are relieved, many are still shocked a man accused of double murder was around their children little more than a day later.
"It's very scary because you know, you have all the kids over there and you don't want anybody's kids to get hurt, whether it's your or anybody else's because they should be safe over there... just to go to school and get there education and come home," said Permenter parent Teresa Moreno.
Just two months into his first semester at the middle school, Heath was placed on administrative leave as of Tuesday.
He faces two counts of capital murder and is being held on $1 million bond in the Tarrant County Jail.
Police had initially detained another man for questioning in the case but he was not arrested.
