Labor Day is the last holiday weekend of the summer and normally the final chance to load up on the fun before the kids head back to school and the weather starts to grow cooler. Many Dallas and Fort Worth residents take small vacations to take advantage of the three-day weekend and many others hit the numerous lakes in the area for a relaxing time of fun in the sun. However, if people are looking for something to do in the area over Labor Day weekend, there are plenty of options to choose from. Here is a guide to 2017 Labor Day weekend events in the DFW area.

The Film Feast at the Modern Arts Museum in Fort Worth takes place over Labor Day weekend and celebrates both films and food. This event has tickets for sale for the entire weekend, for specific days, and also for individual films if a person only wants to come check out one or two of the screenings. Cafe Modern will have gourmet foods and cocktails for the weekend and the festival itself will screen everything from silent films to rare Texas films, cult favorites, and blockbusters as well. Examples of films screening at this Labor Day weekend event in the DFW area include "Like Water for Chocolate," "Ratatouille," "Eat Drink Man Woman," and much more.

For music fans who want to catch a huge festival over the Labor Day weekend in the DFW area, the Riverfront Jazz Festival takes place from Sept. 1 through Sept. 3 at the Texas Horse Park. This is a huge jazz festival that will last the entire weekend with national recording artist and Dallas native Erykah Badu as the honorary chair of the event. Joining Badu as performers at this Labor Day weekend event is names like Keith Anderson, Will Downing, Oleta Adams, Paul Taylor and more. Tickets are $50 a day in advance or $60 at the gate. There is also a three-day pass for $135.

Lifehouse and Switchfoot are out on tour together this summer and are hitting cities all across the United States and Canada. The Dallas-Fort Worth area has the luck of seeing these two popular bands heading to town on Labor Day itself. The concert takes place at the new concert venue, The Pavilion at Irving Music Factory. This is a brand new concert location in the DFW area that opened this year and already has booked some of the biggest bands and touring acts in the nation for its inaugural year. The amphitheater holds 8,000 people and tickets are on sale now for between $20 and $53.50.

Another huge event at The Pavilion at Irving Music Factory is one that will help people kick off their Labor Day weekend fun. LEgendary comedian Dave Chappelle is coming to Dallas for a pair of shows on Thursday, Aug. 31 and Friday, Sept. 1. This is part of Chappelle's comeback tour after almost completely disappearing from the public eye for over a decade. There is one important thing to mention here. This is a comedy concert that does not allow cell phones and if anyone is caught with one at the show, they will be ejected. With that said, tickets are on sale now for between $45 and $129.50.

Another music festival that is taking place over Labor Day weekend in the DFW area is the Bedford Blues & BBQ Labor Day Weekend Festival. This almost combines the first two events listed, with the great food of the Film Feast and great music similar to the jazz festival. There are some huge names playing at the 2017 event including Buddy Guy, Marcia Ball, Ronnie Earl and Delbert McClinton. General admission for this festival is only $7 online and $10 at the gate. There is also a weekend pass for sale online for just $10, making this one of the most affordable Labor Day weekend events in the DFW area this year.
