DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- Free agent defensive end Greg Hardy will visit Valley Ranch on Tuesday, Stephen Jones tells 105.3 The Fan.

Jones says that the Cowboys are bringing the former Panthers DE to Valley Ranch with the intention of signing him. It is not clear if the parties are close to an agreement, though The Fan learned Monday that Hardy and the Cowboys have begun negotiating.

MIKE FISHER: Cowboys Negotiating With Hardy

Hardy was the Panthers' franchise-tagged player a year ago after recording 15 sacks in 2013. At 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds, the 26-year-old would fit a need as a dominant pass rusher in Dallas.

Hardy still faces possible discipline from the NFL stemming from assault allegations against his ex-girlfriend last year.

In July 2014, Hardy was found guilty by a judge of assaulting the woman, Nicole Holder.

"While the national media talks about this being a six-game suspension, I'm told that there's a lot of people involved in this that think it will be a maximum four-game suspension," said Fisher.

In February, Holder failed to show at an appeal trial after the prosecution was unable to locate her, prompting the charges to be dropped. The prosecution also cited a settlement between the two parties.

Hardy allegedly assaulted Holder, flinging her into a bathtub and onto a bed covered in guns. He also was said to have threatened and choked her.

The 2013 Pro Bowler played in the opening game last season before being placed on the commissioner's exempt list.

MORE: Anti-Domestic Violence Advocates React To Potential Greg Hardy Signing

Anti-domestic violence advocates in North Texas are already speaking out about the potential signing, believing that the NFL should adopt a zero tolerance policy when it comes to domestic violence.
