AUSTIN (CBS11) - After his recent trip to Israel and the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said more and higher paying jobs will soon be on their way to North Texas.
"There will be some announcements coming forth soon about new jobs, especially thousands of new jobs in the Dallas area, that hopefully will be announced in the coming months," Gov. Abbott said.
The Governor said he couldn't reveal the names of the companies. But he did say the jobs will come from global companies that have or will have a presence in Texas and U.S. firms that are expanding and growing jobs in the DFW area.
In addition, he said three Swiss-based companies will bring their apprenticeship programs to Texas.
The Governor said they will help students learn specific job skills that will lead to higher salaries. "We find what the job needs are of the employers in the state of Texas and we train the students, high school or college-based students to be prepared for the job skills that are needed by those employers."
Mr. Abbott also met with with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a vocal opponent of the U.S.-Iranian nuclear deal.
Mr. Abbott said he wants the state legislature to pass a law next year to divest all local tax dollars from Iran.
It's already state law to divest state dollars from that country.
"I don't see any reason why citizens of the state of Texas should have their government bodies invest Texas taxpayer dollars into a country that calls America the great satan."
