Gas Station Manager Shoots Would-Be Robbers

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Dallas believe that a gas station manager shot two suspects who were trying to rob his business. The incident happened just before midnight on Wednesday in the Oak Cliff area, near the intersection of East Illinois Avenue and Bonnie View Road.
The manager said that he was in the back room of the Exxon station when he saw, on a monitor, that his employee was being assaulted by the two suspects. The manager then ran out with a gun and told the men to stop. One of the suspects moved toward him with his hand in his pocket, and that is when the manager started firing shots.
One of the suspects was critically injured after being struck in the stomach. The second suspect was hit in the foot. The two men were both transported to Baylor Medical Center at Dallas for treatment and are now in fair condition.
The names of the suspects have not been released. Authorities said that one is a 30-year-old black male and the other is a 30-year-old Latin male. They will both be charged with robbery.
It is not known if either of the suspects were actually armed, but the manager said that they acted as though they had a weapon.
Police do not expect the shooter to face any charges. He is now at home, but the case remains under investigation. That manager said that he fired in an effort to protect his clerk, but he wishes that the suspects would have just taken money and left.
