Gas Leak Stalls Thanksgiving Meals For Plano Residents

PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Dozens of Plano families sat in tents due to a gas leak wishing they were home for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The gas leak has since been fixed after firefighters evacuated about 79 houses near the intersection of Spring Creek Parkway and Alma Drive as a precaution when the leak was called at 7:00 a.m. Thursday.
But the leak came at an unfortunate time as residents were in the middle of Thanksgiving plans.
"I wish I would've put those pies in the refrigerator!" one evacuated resident said.
"Not a good day to have this! It's a memorable one!" another evacuated resident said. "We'll definitely remember this Thanksgiving!"
Buses shuttled families to the Plano senior center for shelter and a hot meal as crews worked to fix the leak.
After using heavy machinery to pound concrete to reach the six-inch underground pipeline, crews from Atmos Energy were able to fix the pipeline by mid-afternoon.
The City of Plano tweeted at approximately 2:40 p.m. that residents were able to return to their homes after being evacuated.
"It's Thanksgiving. It's going to be a great day regardless." evacuated resident Monica Maldonado said.
