Police: Garland Clerk Shot, Killed During Robbery At Corner Food Mart

GARLAND, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - The killing of a 30-year-old clerk at a convenience store is Garland's ninth murder of 2019.

Heng Lam was shot and killed during a robbery Wednesday night.

Police are still searching for his killers and any information as to their identities.

"It doesn't make any sense, why would someone want to do this to my friend? He would give you the shirt off his back. It doesn't make no sense to me," said family friend Yolanda Wilburn, who knew Lam as "Leon."

Police responded to a robbery call at the Corner Food Mart in the 4400 block of West Walnut Street. When they arrived, they found Lam with a gunshot wound.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives were able to view security video showing two men entering the store with handguns.

Customer James Johnston said he heard gunshots but didn't realise the shooting came from the food mart.

"This is not a good area. There's drugs floating around. When the drugs are around, that's bad business," said Johnston.

The suspects are described as approximately 5'7"- 5'8" tall, thin build, wearing hoodies.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 972.485.4840 or Crime Stoppers at 972.272.8477.
