GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - A high-speed police chase ended with a crash early Wednesday. The incident started just after 1:00 a.m. in Garland, and reached its conclusion in Arlington about 45 minutes later.
Police in Garland had spotted a motorcycle that was driving erratically along the LBJ Freeway, near Jupiter Road. Then it was discovered that the bike had been reported as stolen in Dallas County on December 15. Officers attempted to stop the rider, but he started to flee.
Authorities chased the suspected motorcycle thief at speeds that sometimes reached 100 mph.
The rider ultimately crashed near the intersection of Interstate-30 and Highway 360 in Arlington, sliding onto a grassy area when trying to exit the highway. He was then taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center and is expected to be okay.
The suspect was later identified as 31-year-old John Groves. He is now facing charges for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and for evading arrest.
