Garland ISD Bond Package Going To Voters
GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - Voters will decide in November if they want to approve the Garland Independent School District's largest bond package ever. The school board voted Monday night to add the $455.5 million proposal to the ballot, and the district is wasting no time in getting the word out.
The money would go toward renovations throughout the district and technology upgrades. That includes remodeling the entraces to campuses in order to make them more secure. The bond package will also include a natatorium. If approved, the district could also install artificial turf athletic fields at a number of high schools.
"For the average home of $100,000, it's less than $17 a month added to their house payment," said Superintendent Bob Morrison. "And then, for voters who are 65 and older, there is no impact at all. Once you hit the age of 65, your property taxes are frozen in the State of Texas."
The last time that the Garland ISD went to voters with a bond package was 12 years ago. This year's election is on November 4.
