FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A Fort Worth police officer shot in the line of duty was released from the hospital Wednesday and is now resting at home.

Doctors, hospital staff and police officers lined the street as Sergeant Shane Drake was pushed out of Harris Methodist Hospital.

The Fort Worth Police Department tweeted the above photo of Sgt. Drake holding his wife's hand as he was heading home.

Sergeant Drake was shot last month in southwest Fort Worth, while responding to a panic alarm and welfare check at a home.

A mother had contacted authorities saying she was concerned about her son. That man, 40-year-old Wendell King, opened fire on officers when they attempted to enter a bedroom in the house. King was killed in the return fire.

Sergeant Drake is a 19-year veteran with the department.
