Convenience Store Robbery Suspect Shot By FWPD Officer

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW) -A Fort Worth police officer shot and struck a thief at a convenience store early Sunday morning.

According to authorities, officers were dispatched to a robbery at the Quick Way Food Store on East Rosedale Street around 3:45 in the morning.

Officers arrived to find a suspect armed with what appeared to be a rifle inside the location.

During this time, officers on the scene were able to come into contact with an employee who was hiding inside a cooler at the store.

Police directed the suspect to surrender "several times over their public address system."

Officers say the suspect raised his weapon several times towards them. One of the officers fired a single shot at the suspect, striking him.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Police were then able to locate the employee inside the cooler. He was unharmed.

The condition of the suspect is unknown at this time.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.

The Fort Worth Police Department Major Case Unit will be conducting a criminal investigation into the incident, while the Fort Worth Police Department Internal Affairs Section will conduct an administrative investigation.
