FWISD To Determine Dansby's Final Payout
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Monday is the last day of classes in the Fort Worth Independent School District. But it is also the day that trustees will decide what Superintendent Walter Dansby's retirement will cost the district.
Dansby and financial administrator Hank Johnson both resigned last week. The school board will have to decide on Monday what it is willing to pay to part ways with Dansby, and who will lead the Fort Worth ISD next. The school board is scheduled to meet to talk about how much money Dansby will walk away with as part of his retirement.
Indications from school board president Christine Moss is that this process is all being done on the fly, as the superintendent's resignation came unexpectedly. "It was a surprise to me," Moss said. "I had talked with him and asked him to stay earlier."
The superintendent has been with the school district for decades, long before he was promoted to the district's leader. As of right now, Dansby is set to depart with about $900,000. He will continue earning money as the district's ambassador of public relations -- although, nobody seems to be certain of what that title means.
"To me, ambassador is someone who carries good will and talks about the district and promotes the district. But I'm not sure right now what the role is, but that's the title," said Christine Moss.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Monday evening. At that meeting, the board is also expected to appoint an interim superintendent.
