FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Another positive sign Saturday for a North Texas police officer who was shot in the line of duty in March.

Matt Pearce spoke during his first public appearance since leaving the hospital earlier this month.

"If you look around at the Team Pearce t-shirts, nobody forced them to buy those," said Pearce.  They did it because they wanted to support me... and I know my family and I really appreciate it."

Pearce spent nearly two months in the hospital after being shot seven times while trying to serve an arrest warrant.

On Saturday, thousands of people lined Main Street in Fort Worth to thank police for their service and to thank Pearce in particular.

"This is a very humbling experience, and it reminds you, what's important in your life, what's more important. My family, my faith. All that's more important than anything else I'll ever do,"  said Pearce.
