ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – A former teacher and football coach turned Arlington Police officer is fighting for his life.

This past summer Alan Webb was diagnosed with cancer. He now waits in the hospital while doctors determine if he has stage 3 or stage 4 colon cancer.

"It was kind of devastating," says Sgt. Dana Richerson of the Arlington Police Department.

Webb is the kind of guy who doesn't want to stop working, he was on light duty - helping detectives on cases – until recently.

"He came to work every day, he never called in sick. He always had a very upbeat, positive attitude," says Richerson.

A whirlwind of hospital visits, six rounds of chemo therapy, and Webb's wife and four kids have taken the devastating diagnosis as a team.

"I'm trying to prepare for the worst, because I don't have an income right now," says his wife, Angie Webb. "I have four children to think about. Originally they gave him a life expectancy of two more years."

The family's trying to keep up with mounting medical bills while living paycheck to paycheck.

"Early next year he'll have to go on long-term disability. Our income will be cut down," explains Angie.

The Arlington Police department is bringing the family hot meals twice a week and the members of the Webb's church are also helping raise funds. They are selling "Team Webb" shirts with Alan's favorite bible verse on them from the gofundme page that is set up to help the family.

"The thing I tell everyone is, 'just pray for us,' " comments Angie. "Pray that Alan will be able to pull through and be able to walk our two daughters down the aisle when they get married, and watch our boys play football."

The Webb family is getting the best kind of medicine – a big dose of faith and friends.
