Frisco Votes To Curtail Automatic Sprinkler Use
FRISCO, Texas (CBS 11 NEWS) - Frisco joins the list of North Texas cities in restricting outdoor watering to once every other week.
In a special called meeting Saturday, Frisco city council voted unanimously to approve the restrictions at the urging of the North Texas Municipal Water District.
Most of the other 13 city members have passed similar restrictions.
Earlier in the week, council members tabled the proposal for watering restrictions.
On Saturday Mayor Maher Maso still expressed concerns about whether the restrictions will actually reduce water use in Frisco.
"That is a concern that it may have the opposite effect," said Maso. "We will be getting regular reports on how it has changed (water use) and make modifications or go back to the system we had if it's not working."
Since 2012, Frisco has reduced water use in the city be 20%.
Maso credits an aggressive education program and requiring all home builders to install smart control irrigation systems among other inititives for the reduction.
If caught watering on non-designated days, Frisco homeowners face a $25 fine for the first violation. The fee can be waived if homeowners agree to have their sprinkler system check-out by the city.
